Tooting is a suburb in the London Borough of Wandsworth in south London it has been settled since pre-Saxon times, and its name means “the dwelling of the sons of Totas”. Tooting High Street is built The Romans road Stane Street which went from London to Chichester which passed through Tooting. The Wandsworth Borough of London which has one of the lowest Council tax rates in the country and this makes Tooting a very attractive residential area.
St George’s Hospital
St George’s Hospital in Tooting is one of the biggest NHS hospitals in the country. Originally founded in 1733, it was based for two and a half centuries at what is now the Lanesborough Hotel, at the corner of Hyde Park. In the 18th century what was then known as Lanesborough House was an ideal location, on what was then the edge of London, next door to the fresh air and greenery of Hyde Park.
High Street Shopping
Tooting Broadway is home to a vibrant high street hosting chain stores including; Snappy Snaps, New Look, Budgens, Peacocks, Primark, Sainsbury’s, Clarks, Holland & Barrett, Greggs and Tesco’s.
The Tooting Markets are open Monday to Saturday with a wide range of small independent marketplace sellers.
Just down the road in Colliers Wood in the former SavaCente site there are massive M&S and Sainsbury’s outlets. Tooting is in London Underground Zone 3.
